James Harding (San Francisco, CA) – Elemental Adventures

An Orff-Schulwerk classroom is a place of discovery, where children learn through active play with the elements of music and movement. In this workshop we will enter the world of rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamic, timbre, and form through the doorways of rhythmic speech, songs, games, dances, creative movement and play with simple props.

James Harding is in his 21st year of teaching music to children. He teaches at the San Francisco School with longtime colleagues Doug Goodkin and Sofia Lopez-Ibor, and the unique Orff-Schulwerk based program which they have developed for children from pre-school to middle school there has achieved international recognition. James is a graduate of Yale University and also studied music at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. He has presented workshops throughout the United States and internationally in Canada, Australia, Thailand, Finland, Estonia, Spain, Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina and has been a guest teacher at the Orff Institute in Salzburg, Austria.
James is the author of the soon-to-be published “From Wibbleton to Wobbleton,” (Pentatonic Press, 2013) a collection of music and movement lesson ideas inspired by children’s rhymes.
